Joint Statement on Literacy and Reading for International Literacy Day (2015)
Call to Action
IFLA together with the International Publishers Association (IPA), the International Authors Forum (IAF) and the Reading & Writing Foundation (RWF) has put together a joint statement on literacy and reading which calls on United Nations Member States to support the Sustainable Development Goals by implementing coherent and appropriately resourced national comprehensive literacy strategies.
UN Member States are now drawing up national sustainable development plans to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet it will be impossible to fully deliver the SDGs to low literate persons unless action is taken. If we want the Sustainable Development Goals to realise universal literacy then we must use the huge network that libraries, authors and publishers have to offer!
