Visiting The Hague

The Hague is a wonderful city and full of life all year round.  There are a number of cultural events, concerts, art exhibits, theatre, and of course shopping in the city centre.  A bracing walk by the seaside can also be recommended.

By air

  • To Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
    Amsterdam Schiphol is the main airport in the Netherlands and is situated at close distance from and to Amsterdam and The Hague.
  • To Rotterdam – The Hague Airport
    Rotterdam airport provides a daily service to a number of European cities. Buses to Rotterdam Central Station depart throughout the day (the journey takes around 20 minutes).

By train

There are two train stations in The Hague. International trains stop at The Hague Holland-Spoor (Den Haag HS) and local trains (including from Schiphol airport) stop at The Hague Central Station (Den Haag CS). There are regular connections from Den Haag HS to Den Haag CS. For information on arrival/departure train times, visit the Dutch railway company.

The best way to get to The Hague from Amsterdam/Rotterdam Airport is by train. At Schiphol, the train station is situated underneath Schiphol Plaza in the central hall of the terminal, where there are ticket desks and ticket machines. A one way ticket (enkele reis) costs € 7,50 and a day return (dagretour) costs € 14,00. Direct trains to Den Haag CS run every fifteen minutes and the journey takes around 30 minutes. From Rotterdam, trains to Den Haag CS depart every 10-15 minutes; the journey takes around 15 minutes.

By car

Due to extensive building work around the area, we strongly recommend that you leave the car at home. Otherwise, just follow the A12 motorway into the city centre. For traffic information in the region of The Hague, please visit the Koninklijke Nederlandse Toeristenbond (ANWB).

The KB building is located between Central Station and the Utrechtse Baan in The Hague.  On the map below you can see how to reach the KB by foot or bike (red arrows) and by car (black arrows). Several building projects are underway in the vicinity of the KB and this may have consequences for access routes to the library. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

By train

To reach us from Central Station, please use the North exit (1) and follow the signs near platform 12 that will direct you to the main entrance of the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (A).

By car

There is a paid parking zone in the vicinity of the KB.

By bike

Bikes can be put away under the main entrance of the KB (5).
